IIT Delhi Opens Admissions for Executive Programme in Robotics
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has officially opened admissions for the third cohort of its Executive Programme in Robotics. This five-month course is designed to blend both managerial and technical skills, preparing professionals for the rapidly expanding robotics sector both in India and globally.
Programme Overview
As artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and intelligent automation continue to reshape how organizations design, build, and operate, the need for skilled professionals in robotics has never been greater. The Executive Programme in Robotics at IIT Delhi aims to equip learners with a comprehensive understanding of the robotics ecosystem.
The programme draws on insights from top robotics experts and industry leaders from both India and the USA, enabling participants to build job-ready capabilities that deliver measurable impacts across technology-driven sectors.
Curriculum Highlights
According to a recent press release, the five-month Executive Programme in Robotics covers a unique blend of managerial perspectives and deep technical grounding. Participants will learn how to:
- Develop and implement robotic applications using various programming languages.
- Design and control robotic systems and networks.
- Build robotic devices from the ground up, both mechanically and electronically.
- Strengthen capabilities in robotic vision, applying visual sensors to real-world robotics use cases.
Robotics Industry Growth
According to an ABI Research report, the global robotics industry is projected to see nearly 13 million robots in circulation by 2030. The industry is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14%, reaching a market size of USD 111 billion. Notably, humanoid robots represent the fastest-growing segment due to their early-stage maturity.
In India, the momentum continues with 9,100 units installed in 2024, reflecting a 7% increase. The automotive sector leads this adoption, accounting for a significant 45% market share. India now ranks sixth globally in annual installations, moving up one position behind Germany, highlighting the urgent need for skilled talent as manufacturing modernizes through robotics and automation.
Meeting Industry Demands
Prof. Arnab Chanda, Programme Coordinator and Associate Professor at IIT Delhi, emphasized the importance of the programme, stating, “Robotics now sits at the intersection of AI, sensing, and advanced manufacturing. Industry needs engineers who can design, program, and deploy intelligent systems responsibly. Through this Executive Programme in Robotics, IIT Delhi combines research-led teaching with practitioner insights to help professionals build deep technical capabilities, sharpen systems thinking, and accelerate innovation across high-impact sectors, both in India and globally.”
Programme Structure
Curriculum and Capstone Project
The programme consists of six modules:
- Robotics and Automation
- Sensing and Perception
- Actuators and Motion
- Modelling
- AI and Machine Learning
- Embedded Control and Mechatronics
- Applications and Future Directions
Participants will also engage in tutorials covering CAD design, 3D printing, Arduino programming, AI/ML for robotics, DIY robotics, and ROS training. Each learner will complete a hands-on capstone project by developing one robot, supported by structured research and guided implementation.
Programme Delivery and Eligibility
The programme will be delivered through live, interactive Direct-to-Device (D2D) sessions, featuring industry-relevant lectures, tutorials, hands-on tools, and project work. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to engage in an exclusive one-day campus immersion at IIT Delhi, allowing them to experience the institute’s academic and research environment.
Eligibility criteria state that graduates with a minimum of 50% marks are invited to apply. Upon successful completion of the programme, participants will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion.
