The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2025 Grand Finale, a prestigious event aimed at fostering innovation among students, successfully concluded at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu on December 10, 2025. This two-day event was part of a nationwide initiative that engaged over 60 nodal centers across India, showcasing the creativity and technical skills of student innovators.

Event Overview

IIT Jammu served as one of the key nodal centers, hosting 20 teams from various parts of the country. These teams worked diligently on four problem statements provided by the National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO). The hackathon aimed to develop high-impact software prototypes that address critical national challenges, thereby contributing to the nation’s technological advancement.

Inaugural Session

The event kicked off with an engaging inaugural session, which included interactive discussions and presentations. Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, the Union Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region, participated in a live interaction with finalists from selected nodal centers, including IIT Jammu. His presence underscored the significance of the hackathon in nurturing young talent and promoting innovative thinking.

Valedictory Session

The valedictory session was graced by Avny Lavasa, Secretary of the Department of Transport, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, who served as the chief guest. In her address, she emphasized the importance of innovation-driven platforms like the Smart India Hackathon. She stated, “Such events push young minds to question assumptions, think outside the box, take risks, and imagine solutions that others may not even consider possible.” Lavasa highlighted that fostering an innovation ecosystem is crucial for national progress and development.

Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, the Director of IIT Jammu, also spoke during the valedictory session. He noted that events like the Smart India Hackathon enrich all participants—students, mentors, and faculty alike. He encouraged those who did not win to carry forward the knowledge and opportunities gained during the hackathon, emphasizing the value of experience over mere accolades.

Prize Distribution Ceremony

The Grand Finale concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where four teams were declared winners for their exceptional work on the NTRO problem statements hosted at IIT Jammu. Each winning team received a cash prize of INR 1.5 lakh, recognizing their hard work and innovative solutions.
