Significance of the Initiative

This programme represents IIT Guwahati’s first-ever district-level outreach in the states of Assam and Meghalaya. It is a historic moment as it is the first structured academic career awareness programme taken outside the institute’s campus to rural and remote communities in the North East region of India.

The initiative was spearheaded by Prof. Pratul Kalita, the Head of the Department of Design at IIT Guwahati. Since assuming his role, Prof. Kalita has been dedicated to extending the institute’s academic expertise directly to underserved communities, ensuring that students in these areas have access to valuable information regarding their future career paths.

Inauguration of the Hojai Programme

The Hojai programme will be inaugurated by:

  • Basistha Buzarbarua: Khetra Pracharak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), serving as the chief guest.
  • Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati: ACS, District Commissioner of Hojai district, serving as the guest of honour.

The event will also feature several distinguished guests, further enhancing the significance of this educational initiative.

Future Prospects

ABHILASHA 2025 is not just a one-time event but part of a larger vision to empower students in the North East through education and career guidance. By expanding its reach, IIT Guwahati aims to inspire young minds to think creatively about their futures and pursue careers that align with their interests and talents.

As the programme unfolds in Hojai, it is expected to leave a lasting impact on the community, encouraging students to consider various career options that they may not have previously explored.

Conclusion

The ABHILASHA 2025 programme is a commendable effort by IIT Guwahati to bridge the gap between education and career aspirations in rural areas. By focusing on diverse fields and providing essential information, the initiative empowers students, teachers, and parents alike to make informed decisions about future educational and career pathways.
