The Institute for Materials and Manufacturing Research (IMR) at OSU, which works closely with Intel on semiconductor fabrication, provides Frontier Center researchers with unprecedented access to materials expertise. Singh asserts that this collaboration opens up vast opportunities for Indian researchers, allowing them to learn from a mature system and apply that knowledge in India’s developing workforce.

The Origin of the Collaboration

The groundwork for the OSU-IIT Bombay partnership was laid by the OSU Office of International Affairs India Gateway in Mumbai, established in 2012 with support from the U.S. Consulate General. Intensive exchanges from 2014 to 2019, including joint grants and reciprocal faculty visits, culminated in the launch of the Frontier Center in 2019.

Since its inception, the Frontier Center has supported 23 research projects across various fields, including semiconductors, photonics, power electronics, and quantum science. Singh believes this collaboration has immense potential for academic and research progress for both countries, reinforcing the idea that education can strengthen ties and address shared challenges.
