Gujarat Boy Tops JEE Main Exam with 100th Percentile, Eyes IIT Bombay
Ahmedabad: In a remarkable achievement, Nimay Purohit, a student from Rajkot, has topped the state in the IIT-Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main, securing a perfect score of 291 out of 300 marks. This accomplishment places him in the 100th percentile, the highest possible ranking in the exam. The results were announced on February 17, 2026, with approximately 50,000 students from Gujarat participating in the exam conducted in January.
Background of the Achiever
Nimay is a student at Innovative International School and the son of physiotherapists Darshana and Harshal Purohit. His academic prowess is complemented by the achievements of his twin sister, Niya, who also excelled in the exam, scoring in the 98.3 percentile.
Nimay’s Journey and Aspirations
Expressing his excitement, Nimay stated, “I started coaching for the exam in Class 9, while my sister began in Class 8. My parents are in the healthcare field, but I was drawn to engineering due to my strong foundation in mathematics and my passion for innovation.” He aims to perform well in the upcoming JEE Advanced and secure admission in computer science engineering at IIT Bombay.
Preparation Strategy
Nimay shared insights into his preparation strategy, emphasizing the importance of a structured study plan. “I was confident about my score as I got most of the answers correct. I had doubts about only two marks—one I left unanswered and another I answered incorrectly in mathematics and chemistry,” he explained. Despite his success, he admitted that he did not expect to top the state, saying, “The feeling is yet to sink in.”
Study Habits
Contrary to common beliefs, Nimay did not strictly adhere to a no social media rule or engage in constant studying. He maintained a balanced lifestyle, dedicating about six hours a day to study while also allowing time for play and personal interests. “I believe that dedicated study can yield results if you have a clear-cut plan,” he stated.
Focus on NCERT Syllabus
In his preparation, Nimay concentrated on the NCERT syllabus and thoroughly reviewed past years’ exam patterns and questions. This focused approach helped him build a solid foundation in the subjects required for the JEE.
Future Plans
Nimay plans to take the second attempt of the JEE Main in April to further improve his score and gain more experience. His determination and strategic planning reflect a promising future in engineering and academia.
Conclusion
Nimay Purohit’s achievement is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and effective study strategies. As he sets his sights on IIT Bombay, he serves as an inspiration for many aspiring students aiming to excel in competitive exams.
Note: The JEE Main exam is a crucial step for students seeking admission into prestigious engineering institutions in India, including the IITs and NITs. It is essential for students to have a well-structured study plan and to focus on understanding the core concepts to succeed in such competitive examinations.
