The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) Varanasi are set to co-host the fourth edition of the Kashi Tamil Sangamam (KTS 4.0) from December 2 to 10, 2025. This significant cultural event aims to strengthen the ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi, showcasing the rich heritage and linguistic connections between these two regions of India.

KTS 4.0 is expected to attract over 1,400 delegates from diverse backgrounds, including students, educators, writers, media professionals, and spiritual scholars. The event’s theme, ‘Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam,’ emphasizes the promotion of Tamil language education across India, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and linguistic learning.

Experiential Tour and Cultural Immersion

The event will feature an immersive eight-day tour that encompasses key locations such as Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya. Participants will engage in a variety of activities, including:

  • Experiencing local cuisine
  • Exploring local handicrafts

Notable visits during the tour will include significant Tamil heritage sites, such as:

Educational Initiatives and Engagement

In preparation for KTS 4.0, the Education Ministry has launched two dedicated portals for delegate registration. The first portal, kashitamil.iitm.ac.in, is intended for general participant registration, while the second portal, kashitamil.bhu.edu.in, is specifically designed to select 300 students for a 15-day Tamil learning immersion program in Tamil Nadu. A quiz conducted on November 23, 2025, will help shortlist candidates for this immersive experience.

Key Initiatives Under KTS 4.0

One of the prominent initiatives under KTS 4.0 is the Sage Agasthya Vehicle Expedition. This expedition aims to trace ancient cultural routes that link Tamil Nadu and Kashi, emphasizing the historical connections between these regions. It will showcase the efforts of the Pandiyan ruler Shri Adi Veera Parakrama Pandiyan, who played a crucial role in promoting unity within Bharatiya culture.

Strengthening National Integration

Since its inception in 2022, the Kashi Tamil Sangamam has emerged as a pivotal cultural bridge, with each edition witnessing increased public participation. The event aims to deepen engagement through enhanced learning exchanges and cultural immersion, particularly focusing on youth involvement.
