IIT Madras-incubated Mindgrove to Launch Edge AI Surveillance Chip

Mindgrove Technologies, a startup incubated at IIT Madras, is set to release its V2600 System on Chip (SoC) by late 2026. This innovative chip is specifically engineered for CCTV and surveillance applications, integrating edge artificial intelligence (AI) to enable on-device processing. This advancement is expected to enhance security measures while reducing dependence on cloud connectivity.

The Growing Demand for Edge AI Solutions

The global market for edge AI chips is experiencing significant growth. It is projected to expand from $3.67 billion in 2025 to an estimated $11.54 billion by 2031. This growth is driven by an increasing demand for localized processing and enhanced data privacy. As a result, there is a fertile ground for domestic innovation, positioning India as a significant player in the semiconductor industry.

India’s Semiconductor Ambitions

India’s commitment to semiconductor manufacturing is bolstered by initiatives like the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) and substantial government investments. These efforts aim to foster a self-reliant electronics manufacturing and design ecosystem. Mindgrove Technologies is strategically positioned within this landscape, preparing to launch its second System on Chip (SoC), the V2600, which is specifically designed for CCTV and surveillance applications.

Features of the V2600 Chip

The V2600 chip will empower devices to perform complex video processing and critical decision-making directly on the chip. This capability significantly reduces the reliance on constant cloud connectivity, addressing the escalating global demand for trusted, secure, and efficient vision systems across various sectors, including:

  • Industrial automation
  • Connected consumer electronics
  • Automotive dashcams
  • Industrial machine vision

Shashwath T R, Co-founder and CEO of Mindgrove Technologies, emphasized the importance of vision systems in security and automation, stating, “With the MG Vision series of SoCs, we are responding to the growing global demand for trusted alternatives in surveillance and vision-led systems.” He further mentioned that security is embedded at the silicon level, safeguarding visual data from capture through processing.

Financial Landscape and Market Positioning

Mindgrove Technologies operates as a private entity and has raised a total of $10.3 million across three funding rounds. The latest funding round was an $8 million Series A in December 2024, led by Rocketship.vc and Speciale Invest. Currently, the company’s valuation stands at approximately ₹215 crore. While it does not have publicly traded market data like price-to-earnings ratios or stock prices, its strategic focus on the rapidly growing edge AI segment positions it against established global players such as NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Ambarella, as well as other emerging startups.

Support from IIT Madras and Government Initiatives

The development of the V2600 chip has received approval under India’s Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, which is designed to encourage innovation and investment in semiconductor design. The IIT Madras Incubation Cell has become a significant catalyst for deep-tech innovation, supporting over 500 startups with a combined valuation exceeding $6 billion. This ecosystem is crucial for advancing India’s capabilities in the semiconductor industry.

Conclusion

The anticipated launch of the V2600 chip by Mindgrove Technologies marks a significant step towards enhancing indigenous technological capabilities in the semiconductor sector. As the company prepares for its late 2026 launch, it not only signifies a commitment to innovation but also aligns with India’s broader objectives to become a global semiconductor manufacturing hub.
