IIT Madras launches 3 AI courses: Registrations open till this date; check complete details here
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has recently announced the launch of three new artificial intelligence (AI) courses through the SWAYAM Plus platform. This initiative is part of the ‘AI for All’ campaign, which aims to make digital skills accessible to a broader audience, including individuals without a technical background. The announcement was made by Prof. V Kamakoti, the Director of IIT Madras, during a special event celebrating two years of SWAYAM Plus operations.
Overview of the New AI Courses
The newly introduced courses are designed to cater to different groups of learners, from students to working professionals. Each course focuses on practical applications of AI, ensuring that participants can utilize the skills they acquire in real-world scenarios. The three courses are:
- AI for Aspiring Engineers: This course covers the basics of Python, AI, and Machine Learning using engineering datasets. It is tailored for students pursuing engineering degrees.
- AI for Administrators: Aimed at professionals, this course teaches how to effectively use AI tools for decision-making in administrative roles.
- Prompt Engineering: This course focuses on how to interact efficiently with AI systems, making it suitable for anyone looking to enhance their communication with AI technologies.
Registration Details
According to Prof. R. Sarathi, the Coordinator of SWAYAM Plus, the platform has successfully completed two years and now offers over 500 courses across 15 different sectors. The growth in registrations has been significant, with more than 5.5 lakh learners signing up so far. The previous batches of the ‘AI for All’ campaign witnessed over 92,000 registrations, indicating a strong interest in AI education.
Interested learners can register for the new courses through the SWAYAM Plus portal. The last date to register is set for May 10, 2026. The pricing for the courses is as follows:
- AI for Aspiring Engineers: Rs 500 plus GST
- AI for Administrators: Rs 100 plus GST
- Prompt Engineering: Rs 100 plus GST
This pricing structure is designed to make the courses accessible to a larger number of learners, encouraging participation from diverse backgrounds.
Previous Initiatives by IIT Madras
Before launching these new courses, the IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, in collaboration with the SWAYAM Plus portal, had initiated a free nationwide AI training program specifically for rural school teachers. This program aimed to enhance digital and teaching capabilities in government and rural schools across India, demonstrating IIT Madras’s commitment to improving educational opportunities through technology.
