IIT Madras Throws Open Doors for ‘Institute Open House 2026’
IIT Madras is set to welcome the public to its campus for the ‘Institute Open House 2026’, scheduled from January 2 to 4, 2026. This event is part of the ‘IIT Madras for All’ initiative, designed to provide a unique, first-hand experience of the IIT ecosystem and to inspire the next generation of innovators.

The Open House is being organized in association with Shaastra 2026, the institute’s annual technical festival. It aims to engage a diverse audience, including:

- 11 Institute Research Centres

Approximately 80 exhibition stalls will be set up to feature:

- Live demonstrations
- Innovations across 18 academic departments
Scale and Participation
The organizers anticipate a significant turnout, expecting over 95,000 registrants and around 60,000 visitors. This makes the Institute Open House one of the largest public engagement initiatives in the history of IIT Madras.

Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the event’s purpose, stating:
“Our Institute Open House is organized with the main aim for ‘anaivarukkum IITM, IIT Madras for all’. We welcome students from all the corners of the country, including rural and village schools and colleges, with the wish that those students will return as our own students in the future.”
Previous Success
The previous edition of the Open House recorded nearly 35,000 visitors, with participation from over 550 schools and 250 cities across India. This year, the event aims to build on that success and reach an even wider audience.
