MoUs Inked with IIT Delhi and Tata IIS to Skill 1,000 Tripura Youth

Agartala, December 1, 2025: In a significant move aimed at enhancing youth employability and expanding livelihood opportunities in Tripura, the Directorate of Skill Development has signed two important Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Tata Innovation and Industrial Solutions (IIS). These agreements are designed to train 1,000 young candidates in advanced, industry-relevant job roles, aligning the state’s workforce with emerging global and national market demands while simultaneously reducing outmigration.

Collaboration with IIT Delhi

The first MoU involves collaboration with IIT Delhi, which will provide training to 500 candidates in emerging technology domains. The focus areas include:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Machine Learning
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Blockchain
  • 5G Technologies

This training initiative will be conducted in partnership with the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Agartala, the Tripura Institute of Technology, and other government-supported centres across the state. The funding for this initiative will come from a combined contribution of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 and the state-backed Mukhya Mantri Dakyatha Unnyanan Prakalpa (MMDUP).

Future Innovations and Support

Ashutosh Dutt Sharma, the CEO of IIT Delhi’s I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics, attended the signing ceremony and expressed a strong interest in establishing a regional innovation centre in Tripura in the future. He noted that such a centre could provide vital support to startups working in cutting-edge technology sectors, thereby creating new IT-linked employment opportunities within the state.

Collaboration with Tata IIS

The second MoU, signed with Tata IIS, aims to train another 500 candidates in various technical fields. The specific areas of training include:

  • Industrial Automation Safety Engineering
  • Industrial Robotics System Integration
  • Electric Vehicle Maintenance
  • CNC Programming
  • 3D Printing Operations

This training will be conducted in collaboration with various Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) throughout Tripura. Mayank Palan, the Chief Financial Officer of Tata IIS, stated that the training would be directly linked to job placements. Successful candidates will be connected with Tata’s manufacturing units and partner industries across the country.

Creating Local Employment Opportunities

Emphasizing the importance of digital and technical skills, the Director of Skill Development mentioned that this initiative aims to create local employment avenues in sectors such as Information Technology (IT), IT-enabled Services (ITeS), and startups. During the PMKVY 4.0 review meeting, Industries and Commerce Secretary Kiran Gitte highlighted the need for skilled trainers, modern infrastructure, and motivated trainees to ensure the success of this initiative.

Focus on Women Empowerment

Minister Santana Chakma announced that 30 percent of the training targets would be reserved for women-only centres. This initiative is particularly aimed at benefiting candidates from economically weaker and remote regions, ensuring that women have equal opportunities to participate in these skill development programs.

Significance of the MoUs

These MoUs represent a significant step in Tripura’s efforts to build a future-ready workforce. By focusing on advanced technology and technical skills, the state aims to strengthen its role in the evolving industrial and technological landscape. The collaboration with prestigious institutions like IIT Delhi and Tata IIS not only enhances the skill set of the local youth but also fosters an environment conducive to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the signing of these MoUs marks a pivotal moment for Tripura’s youth, offering them a pathway to gain valuable skills that are in high demand in today’s job market. This initiative is expected to reduce unemployment rates and help retain talent within the state, ultimately contributing to the overall economic development of Tripura.
