Tripura Signs MoUs with IIT Delhi, Tata IIS for Advanced Tech Skill Training
In a significant move to enhance skill development among the youth of Tripura, the state government has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Tata Industrial Innovation Solutions (IIS). These agreements aim to train a total of 1,000 candidates in advanced job roles, thereby improving local employment opportunities and reducing outmigration.
Details of the Agreements
The first MoU, established with IIT Delhi, focuses on training 500 candidates in five futuristic job roles. These roles are:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Machine Learning
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Blockchain
- 5G Technologies
This training initiative will be implemented in collaboration with various local institutions, including the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Agartala and the Tripura Institute of Technology. Funding for this project will be provided jointly by the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 and the state-supported Mukhyamantri Mudra Yojana (MMDUP) scheme.
Future Plans for Skill Development
During the MoU signing ceremony, Ashutosh Dutt Sharma, the CEO of the IIT Delhi Technology Innovation Hub, expressed a keen interest in establishing a regional center in Tripura. This center is expected to support startups in emerging technology sectors and empower local innovators, ultimately creating IT-linked employment opportunities within the state.
Second MoU with Tata IIS
The second MoU signed with Tata IIS aims to train another 500 candidates in high-demand technical sectors. The areas of focus under this agreement include:
- Industrial Automation
- Safety Engineering
- Industrial Robotic System Integration
- Electric Vehicle Maintenance Technician
- CNC Programming
- 3D Printing Operations
This training will be conducted in collaboration with the state’s Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). The Skill Development Director, Pradeep K, emphasized that all training programs will be strictly placement-linked, ensuring that participants have a clear pathway to employment upon completion of their courses.
Connecting Trainees with Industry
Mayank Palan, the Chief Financial Officer of Tata IIS, stated that the trainees would be connected to Tata’s vehicle manufacturing units and its extensive network of industrial clients across India. This connection is expected to significantly enhance the employability of the candidates and create new livelihood opportunities for the youth of Tripura, particularly in advanced manufacturing and automotive technologies.
Importance of Digital Skills
Pradeep K highlighted the critical role that digital skills will play in helping the youth secure jobs within the state. He noted that promoting training in Information Technology (IT), IT-enabled Services (ITeS), and startup-focused initiatives is part of the department’s broader strategy to reduce the necessity for youth to migrate to other states in search of employment.
Conclusion
The signing of these MoUs marks a pivotal step towards enhancing the skill set of the youth in Tripura. By focusing on advanced technologies and aligning training with industry demands, the state government aims to create a robust workforce capable of meeting the challenges of the modern job market. This initiative not only promises to improve local employment opportunities but also seeks to foster innovation and entrepreneurship within the region.
