IIT Kharagpur YIP 2025–26: Applications Open For Young Innovators’ Programme
IIT Kharagpur has officially opened applications for the seventh edition of its Young Innovators’ Programme (YIP) for the academic year 2025–26. This initiative is aimed at students in classes 8 to 12, encouraging them to showcase their innovative ideas and solutions to pressing global challenges.
Application Details
The deadline for online submissions is set for November 30, 2025. Schools are required to nominate teams, which will then submit their ideas under one of the five designated themes. The program not only aims to foster creativity and innovation among young minds but also provides a platform for students to engage with real-world problems.
Five Innovation Themes
This year’s YIP invites student groups to submit abstracts under the following key themes:
- Food Security: Ideas aimed at improving food availability and accessibility.
- Technology for the Specially-Abled: Innovations that enhance the quality of life for differently-abled individuals.
- Sustainability and Environment: Solutions focused on environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
- Innovations in Education: Creative approaches to enhance learning experiences and educational methodologies.
- Affordable Healthcare Solutions: Hardware innovations aimed at making healthcare more accessible and affordable.
Team Registration Process
Each participating school must nominate a coordinating teacher who will create a team account on the YIP portal. This account will facilitate the submission of ideas and track the team’s progress throughout the competition.
Selection Process
Following the online submission phase, top teams from both India and abroad will be selected to participate in an on-campus event at IIT Kharagpur. This three-day event will allow students to showcase their working models or prototypes, which will be evaluated by a panel of expert faculty members.
On-Campus Event
The on-campus event will consist of semifinal and final rounds, where shortlisted teams will present their projects. This is a unique opportunity for students to receive direct feedback from experienced professionals in the field of innovation and technology.
Post-Competition Mentorship
IIT Kharagpur is committed to supporting young innovators even after the competition concludes. Selected teams will have access to continued mentorship opportunities, allowing them to refine and scale their innovations beyond the competition framework. This mentorship is invaluable for students looking to further develop their ideas into viable solutions.
Conclusion
The Young Innovators’ Programme at IIT Kharagpur represents a significant opportunity for students to engage with critical issues facing society today. By participating in this program, young innovators can not only showcase their creativity but also contribute to meaningful solutions that can impact their communities and the world at large.
