Tripura Signs Major Skill Development MoUs with IIT Delhi
In a significant move aimed at enhancing employability and creating new opportunities for the youth of Tripura, the Directorate of Skill Development has signed two major Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and Tata IIS. This initiative is part of a broader effort to train a total of 1,000 candidates in cutting-edge job roles that align with emerging industry demands, ultimately boosting local employment and reducing outmigration.
Details of the MoUs
The first MoU, signed with IIT Delhi, outlines a plan to train 500 candidates in five futuristic job roles. These roles include:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Machine Learning
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Blockchain
- 5G Technologies
This training program will be implemented in collaboration with various government institutions in the state, including the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) Agartala and Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT). Funding for this initiative will be provided through the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0 and the state-supported Mukhya Mantri Dakyatha Unnyanan Prakalpa (MMDUP) scheme.
Future Plans for Regional Development
During the signing ceremony, Ashutosh Dutt Sharma, CEO of the I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics at IIT Delhi, expressed interest in establishing a regional center in Tripura in the future. This proposed center aims to support startups in new-age technology domains, empowering local innovators and generating IT-linked employment opportunities within the state.
Second MoU with Tata IIS
The second MoU signed with Tata IIS will focus on training another 500 candidates in high-demand technical sectors. The specific areas of training include:
- Industrial Automation Safety Engineering
- Industrial Robotic System Integration
- Electric Vehicle Maintenance Technician
- CNC Programming
- 3D Printing Operations
These training programs will be conducted in collaboration with the state’s Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Mayank Palan, CFO of Tata IIS, emphasized that these programs will be strictly placement-linked. He assured that trainees will be connected to Tata’s vehicle manufacturing units and its extensive network of industrial clients across mainland India. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance employability and open new livelihood avenues for the youth of Tripura in advanced manufacturing and automotive technologies.
Importance of Digital Skills
The Director of Skill Development highlighted the crucial role that digital skills will play in enabling youth to secure employment within Tripura itself. By promoting training in Information Technology (IT), Information Technology Enabled Services (ITeS), and startup-oriented programs, the Directorate aims to reduce the necessity for youth to migrate to other states in search of job opportunities.
Key Components for Successful Skill Development
During a recent PMKVY 4.0 meeting, Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary of Industries & Commerce, outlined three essential components for successful skill development in Tripura:
- Highly skilled trainers
- State-of-the-art training centers
- Careful selection of motivated aspiring candidates
Gitte noted that the Directorate is committed to strengthening training quality across all institutions. The training programs will focus on outcomes and will be tailored based on demand from the industries.
Conclusion
The signing of these MoUs marks a pivotal step in Tripura’s journey towards becoming a hub for skill development and employment generation. By collaborating with esteemed institutions like IIT Delhi and Tata IIS, the state is poised to equip its youth with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly competitive job market. This initiative not only aims to enhance local employment but also seeks to foster innovation and entrepreneurship among the youth of Tripura.
